Business Plan Part 3: Market Analysis

You'd better know what you're getting into!

The Market Analysis section is, rather obviously, a close examination of your market. It needs to include information about your company, competition, and customer.

Your competition will be the biggest topic since potential investors will want to know your competitive advantage. However, you need to show that you know all three of the C's extensively.

The Market Analysis is the section in which you give your reasons for starting a business. Tell why customers will come and what sets it apart from the competition.

You should also show that you have done comprehensive research in all these areas. This is a good place to incorporate charts and graphs to illustrate your data. All this information helps to predict future growth.

Your information thus far in your Business Plan should be beginning to convince the reader to back your initiative. The rest of the plan will seal the support. For more information on the Market Analysis, check out the SmallBusinessNewz video report.

Competitive Advantage

After one tells why customers will come and what sets one's business apart from the competition, quality service/products, quality customer service, one need impress upon any potential investor the ability to be in front of said customer when they are searching for one's products/services.

The creation of the Internet and the advent of the personal computer has made it much easier for the consumer to find needed and/or wanted products and services. Few people use the yellow pages anymore.

The challenge for the small business owner is to be in front of the potential customer when being searched for.

This is known as pull marketing where the customer "pulls" the information about your product/service from a search of some sort.

When I say "a search of some sort" I mean Internet search.

Consequently, one need a high ranking webpage optimized for whatever keywords a consumer may use to find you.

If you can show a potential investor that you understand this marketing strategy, I don't see any reason why the funds shouldn't flow in your direction.

There are many companies that will build a website for you but there are far fewer that have the knowledge to optimize your web presence so that it sits highly on the search engine results page.

Remember, you want to be there when people are looking for you, yes? Good!
