You've probably already learned through the mainstream media that gun shops are having a very merry holiday season thanks to Barack Obama's win.  Now, a new report has indicated that many other types of businesses may see some upticks in sales, as well.

This isn't exactly a reverse-the-recession discovery, but a survey conducted by the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and Goldman Sachs found that about five percent of respondents would have increased their holiday spending in the event John McCain was elected president.

A full eight percent of respondents intend to spend more since the majority votes swung the other way.  So there's a net of three percent from one particular sample for you.

Michael Niemira, the director-research at ICSC, told Howard Larson, "Now things may change, and that's what we're counting on, even if it's in the margin."

As for why Obama's election is having an influence at all - he isn't in office yet, of course - Niemira speculated, "It may be that the election captured so many different aspects of where consumers felt problems were and how they could be corrected."

No matter which side of the political aisle you consider home, then, take a little comfort from this short-term improvement.
