LinkedIn May Be Right for Your Business

The Social Nework of Choice for Many Business Owners

LinkedIn is the preferred social network of many business professionals. It's not the only one by any means, and some people will tell you it's not the best, but studies show that it is the favorite among business owners.

Mike Sachoff recently reported on a study that also found a direct correlation between LinkedIn use and personal wealth. He wrote:

The study found a direct relationship between the number of connections and high personal income. Those members with personal incomes between $200K-$350K were seven times more likely than others to have over 150 connections.

The survey found that senior executives, who make up about 8.4 million members, have the highest average personal income with $104,000. Savvy networkers, also described as consultants have the second highest averaged income with $93,500 and consist of 9 million LinkedIn members.

I wrote about this and some other LinkedIn related information, all pointing to it being a network that business owners can turn to for networking purposes. Today I came across a helpful video at Small Business Trends, that shows you just how to go about using LinkedIn to benefit your business.

Experienced social networking folks, probably won't gain a whole lot from watching the video, but for those of you who haven't really gotten your feet wet, the video should prove to be a good watch. Comments on Small Business Trends indicate that a number of people have found it quite useful.

LinkedIn is all about relationship building, which is a fundamental element of small business growth. While there are a number of other networks you can use to build relationships, LinkedIn tends to cater to business professionals more than some of the other ones. If you like other networks better for business use, please feel free to let us know in the comments.

I'm there..

Thanks, Chris, for this informative article. I'm on LinkedIn as well as other social sites to raise awareness for my safety and security products. You're absolutely right, it's a great place to network with other business owners. I'm not sure about the income correlation but that would be nice!

a surprise package ...

To be honest, I only put some effort into LinkedIn to get a site backlink.  But has it ever paid off in spades .... LinkedIn is now a cheif source of referred site traffic for my website and often does better than PPC.

Just what I needed..

Thanks alot Chris for your information about LinkedIn. I watched the video and learned alot. I will be joining and looking forward to linking with other professionals that will hopefully help me with my new site. (www.hudrefundsusa.com)

I Have Seen Growth

Judging from the emails that I am now receiving from LinkedIn, the overall network in insurance is growing. I think there are two areas for the reason for this growth

  1. Heavy downsizing by corporations - this resulted in LinkedIn being used as a job search tool
  2. The downsizing has resulted in a large increase in the number of small biz start-ups  - however, I am not sure how/if Linkedin will result in more business other than to provide a free backlink.

Regardless, after seeing the video, I want to make sure that my Workers Compensation blog is in my profile and that my profile is updated completely.

That was a good video.  It was presented well and very concisely.

The Need for Small Businesses Has Inreased

The adverse forecast about the global economy is driving many to start home based businesses that produce residual income. And this is where social networking places such as LinkedIn come in handy. You network with other professional, open your eyes and learn and build synergies. I am surprised about the relationship between the number of connections and high personal income. I am looking to join LinkedIn so that I can benefit from other professionals.

Linked In Works

I am a great believer in LinkedIn and I use it for my telecom business.  There seem to be so many social networking sites out there that if you did them all, that's all you'd have time to do all day.

The beauty of Linked In is that there's no such thing as a cold call any more.  If you refer to your mutual friend, then that person you are contacting will discuss your proposal.  Make that phone call to the person and you have only a 10% chance of getting anywhere.

LinkedIn Advertising

I am not wet behind the ears. I know LinkedIn provide a free service for a reason. But I do object to them advertising the the users of LinkedIn as a resource. Are they giving me a share of the revenue? After all, its the users who've provided the high quality content.

perfect for small business networks

I have truely agree with Chris. I have been member from long time and get conntected with CEO's, Enterprenuer of SMB's  or Enterprises. This is a best way to  search a job, peoples can find their preferred business partners, can find news like many news wire providing and many more..

Help understanding Manta.com

Chris,

I've been building a list of business owners contacts on Manta.com.  Where do you see them fitting into the mix?  If nothing else - I'm enjoying the free company info on 60 million companies but now finding it to be a great way to connect with business owners.  Your thoughts?
