It's not surprising
The beauty of online marketing is it is so fast to set up and so measurable. It's not wonder more and more $ are going online. You can have an ad up and running in minutes and test just about everything from headline to offer.

Only online for me..
Thanks, Chris, for this great information. The marketing I do for my safety and security web site is all on line. That's where my target market is and I find my marketing dollars go farther.

Online Shopping
People feel they get a better deal online and hey they don't have to fight traffic to get there.
Online in the mix
Everyone is making good points. It's quick, it is measurable, and it looks like your dollar goes farther. It actually doesn't but that's another article.
Of course, you have to wonder how good a campaign is going to be if it's conceived and executed in 10 minutes. My guess is that that big guys are spending a lot of time deciding first what to say, then making a carefully planned launch into the marketplace.
It's up to the offline world (why is TV considered offline...(?) - TV and the web are nearly the same thing nowadays) -- to let people know that TV and print are measurable, and extremely targetable. For example, a TV ad can be aired on a TV show at a particular time within a single zip code. They might as well be walking up to somebody's house, with that kind of targeting. Even magazines can target that closely. Plus, an offline campaign can drive web traffic. That's another thing the offline world needs to get better at -- coordinating between the media.
Trouble with targeting is that people often buy stuff that isn't geared toward their demographic - like for gifts, or maybe they just like it, or whatever. So, a general message that's blasted out there has its place, too. People get to know you and trust your brand and product.
A lot of people want a web video of their TV ad to go with their advertising mix, if not a custom web-only ad. I think people like CheapTVSpots are doing a lot of that type of advertising. But they're an exception because they think outside the box. It's TV that's actually cheap.
Love your articles Chris - keep em comin'!
Internet Converts NOW
There's no time right now for branding a new product line, although you can probably negotiate some good media rates. Companies need sales immediately and management is not going to be very patient. Therefore, it makes sense to target internet marketing leads since they have the high likelihood of converting right now.
