A couple of our WebProNews reporters are in Chicago attending the Search Engine Strategies conference, and as a result, they're coming away with some pretty good information that small businesses can use. With that in mind, I wanted to share some of that with SmallBusinessNewz readers as well, as I know not all of you read WebProNews.
Some eCommerce professionals discussed ways to make online shopping a more enjoyable and productive experience for users. Doug talked about it here, but tips included things like never presenting a simple "no results" page, and rather promoting best-selling products in these situations. They talked about testing shopping carts and checkout flow, and testing incremental changes. They also discussed optimizing for search engines via sitemaps and robots.txt files.
One session looked at blog marketing and Jennifer Laycock of Search Engine Guide offered the following tips:
- Comment early (gets attention of other readers)
- Frequent comments
- Spread comments
- Comment late (to get attention of the blogger)
- Pitching a blogger
- Use real language
- Respect their time
- Develop a friendship
Some other tips along the same lines for social media were discussed in another session. For those of you looking for some SEO help, one session provided a plethora of useful tools for just that.

If only it were that easy, Or should I say easier than done! It seems as though every time I turn around SEO Mastery has changed, and it's a very hard thing to keep up with when you're running a small business while keeping up with the "Mastery" of SEO.
I Did see something new last night in Google that is supposed to make the whole analylitics thing easier, as well as the SEO, But haven't goten that far in my day yet. Some of you might want to check it out. I will be looking into it more later., It definately can't hurt.
