Kerry To Stop Serving as Small Biz Committee Chair

Gulps greet replacement Landrieu

The Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship is undergoing a change in leadership.  Say goodbye to John Kerry, who was the chairman, and hello to Mary Landrieu, who's next in line.

Kerry will now be the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, so don't worry about him.  Landrieu, a Democrat from Louisiana, may instead give small business owners cause to be concerned for themselves.

Robb Mandelbaum notes, "Kerry brought a profile to the committee that Landrieu will find difficult to match.  According to a ranking from the nonpartisan website congress.org, Kerry was the 12th most effective Senator in 2007, while Landrieu was 29th.  Landrieu, though, did crack another Top Twenty list: Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington named her one of the 20 most corrupt people in Congress -- a dishonor awarded for a $2 million earmark she bestowed on a major campaign contributor."

Mandelbaum then continues, "She joins such ill-distinguished company as Rep. William Jefferson, a fellow Democrat from Louisiana in whose freezer the FBI found a briefcase full of cash; Rep. Rick Renzi, a Republican from Arizona indicted for fraud; and Sen. Ted Stevens, a recently convicted felon.  Of these four, she's the only one to win re-election to the 111th Congress."

So cross your fingers and hope that the committee dedicated to representing small businesses won't become even less helpful than before.

RE: Democrats Corrupt?

I am shocked that "Louisiana Landrieu" has been sited by the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington as one of the 20 most corrupt people in Congress..

What is this world coming to! Louisiana corrupt? Who would have thunk it? (LOL). Reminds me of a somewhat humerous, but sad story.

I remember the aftermath of Kartina, and particular news story that for me, sort of underlined the level of corruption in that state.

A news reporter was telling a tale of retail devistation from a Wal-Mart that was knee high in flood water. Don't remember his name, or the news agency doing the story.

Wish I had. Anyway, while he was roaming through the store and highlighting the damage, two female Louisana police officers had a shopping cart and were helping themselves to the undamaged products that were left on the shelfs.

The reporter did ask them that they should be doing this, considering they were law enforcement officials.  They did not answer and kept right on shopping! Said reporter then proceeded to wrap up his story.

And, it seems that the Democratic party is the same way. They just don't care, and let their members "walk" without holding them accountable.

Having hints of, or being involved in, corruption just doesn't matter. Political malfeasance seems to be a prerequisite to hold office or get committee appointments. And, the public is to blame for electing them.

For instance, New Jersey and North Carolina have elected the same party (Democrats) who have raised taxes on them year after year, and allow corrupt members to flourish within their states legislature.

Republicans on the Federal level are just as worthless as the Democrats, but at least they do make an attempt to purge some of the morally bankrupt from their ranks. But, they are far from having any lock on virtue..

And here I thought Pelosi was going to drain the swamp of corruption and have the most "ethical" congress - ever! I think Clinton made that claim too.

Good luck to anyone who thinks Obama, or any politician is "change they can believe in.  Ethics and politics are like oil and water. They just don't mix!
