Small Business New Years Resolutions

For Email Marketing

With the New Year quickly approaching, and the pretty good response we've seen to the 100 email marketing tips, it seems only logical that I also share some new years resolutions from Campaigner. These are resolutions to improve your email marketing campaigns in 2009:

1. Clean your email list.

Make sure all unsubscribe requests are taken care of. Scrub your list and improve your deliverability rates as well as your reputation.

2. Review what worked and what didn't in 2008.

Take a look at you most successful campaigns of the year, as well as your least successful ones. Find patterns and expand upon them.

3. Make a 2009 email marketing plan.

Think about you scheduling and how it can potentially work for or against open rates. Take things like business and seasonal cycles and relevancy into consideration.

4. Use customer data in email campaigns.

Use a CRM system of another means of using data provided to you by customers to target them better with your campaigns.

5. Try something new.

Just try some different strategies that you haven't used in the past, because your most successful campaign might still be ahead of you.

"More and more small businesses rely on email marketing as one of the cornerstones of their growth strategy," says Campaigner’s head of marketing, Luc Vezina. "We hope these New Year’s resolutions inspire more small businesses to get started with email marketing and help those already using it to get even better results in 2009."

Mike McDonald recently talked to Michael Stebbins of Market Motive about some other email marketing advice:

Thanks...

Thanks, Chris, for these helpful tips. I'm always needing to be reminded of things to help improve sales for my safety and security web site.

I especially like "trying something new." Although email marketing isn't one of the things that work for my industry, I'm always on the look out for anything new that might spark sales.

Mobile Marketing

Email marketing surely works great, because it's relatively cheap.  I am, however, getting increased results by adding mobile text message marketing to my mix.
