Windows 7 Should Be Good For Small Businesses

Another, better option

Sometime this year - or maybe early next - the computing landscape is going to shift a bit as Microsoft replaces Windows Vista with Windows 7.  For small businesses, this is shaping up to be an excellent occurrence.

Tests of the Windows 7 beta have shown it to be faster and need less energy than Vista.  Even at this early stage of development, it's challenging the older operating system in the stability department, too.  There doesn't seem to be any area in which ground has been lost.

Businesses that are using Vista and have some spare cash may find it worth their while to upgrade, then.  And perhaps more importantly, businesses that have clung to XP have less reason to view buying new computers as an awful thing.  Cost aside, at least they'll now get something that should work well.

We're not suggesting that you call up the Windows 7 development team with your credit card number, of course; the operating system's final version will need to be tested.  Also, it's hard to look forward to Windows 7 too much when Microsoft won't even say when the product will be released.

Still, it looks like the company is on the path to doing something that will provide small businesses with a nice, safe computing upgrade option.

windows 7

In my two businesses we are about 50% mac and 50% windows. We had one vista box but nobody uses it because it caused so many problems. The owner of the local computer shop that builds our windows computers has a big box full of unopened XP installs - he says that none of his customers (most of whom are small business owners) want vista. Personally, Microsoft has a lot of credibility to regain before we will try using another Microsoft OS.

windows 7 better be better

Yay!!

Just can't wait for the final release of Windows 7... Ultimate Vista. For all I can it's kinda like the SP2 for XP... I hated XP until then. I think Windows 7 is in the same situation really. That said. I haven't heard one bad thing about Windows 7 so far and we've even migrated test systems onto it already... And that's the BETA... the final product (provided they don't start making useless additions) should be awesome!

Hopefully 7 excels with the anticipation

Yes, the much anticipated user centric Windows 7... it beats XY and Vista in several performance areas - including boot and shutting down time, working with files and loading documents. The new release also includes a number of new features, e.g advances in touch, speech and handwriting recognition, support for virtual hard disks, and kernel improvements.

Well, this should be a great OS and certainly MS needs something to regain their prowess...

thanks Doug

I hope so, we are a small business and definitly could use the added stability to our computer needs
