FSB Gearing Up For Annual Conference

Noteworthy speakers at a nice place in Wales

Sorry, American readers - this is another story that may be of more interest to people on the opposite side of the Atlantic.  But if you have some frequent flyer miles built up or wouldn't mind combining business with pleasure on a vacation, the Federation of Small Businesses Annual Conference 2009 could be worth dropping in on.

The conference will be held at the Celtic Manor in South Wales between March 19th and 21st, and the economic crisis and its effect on small businesses will of course be the main topics of discussion.  With any luck, some clever tips and tricks - or perhaps some genuine good news - will be shared.

Such sharing might take place within any of four workshops, which will focus on "campaigning for small businesses," achieving healthy workplaces," "the fourth-coming European parliamentary elections," and "how to survive the downturn with ASC Finance for Business."

As for who will be doing the talking, a statement concerning the conference lists some interesting speakers "including small business minister, Baroness Vadera; the newly appointed shadow business minister, Kenneth Clarke; and Vice President of the European Commission, Gunter Verheugen from Brussels."  And, "[i]n addition to a keynote speech from the FSB's National Chairman, John Wright, the Deputy First Minister for Wales, Ieuan Wyn Jones, will also be speaking to give the Welsh perspective."

So start making those travel plans if you intend to go.  Better practice your pronunciation of Welsh towns and roads, too.

"Noteworthy speakers at a nice place in Wales"

What a pathetic title from someone who is a "staff writer" and being Welsh myself I find it downright derogatory. The title is used in such a manner that it suggests it is unusual for there to be a nice place in Wales! Like all places, Wales has good and bad places, no more or less percentage wise than any other country. So couldn't the title have been better thought up and didn't infer the slur? Perhaps... "FSB Conference to tee off at the next home of the Ryder Cup!". In fact a positive title in that it highlights another up-coming event htta will be hopefully good for the local economy of South Wales and its small businesses.

Wow

Goodness, is it really so offensive to call one establishment "nice"? Rest assured, I in no way intended to imply that the rest of the region is crap. From what little I know about it, Wales sounds lovely, which is why I suggested that people build a vacation around the conference.

great info Doug

Thanks for theg great info.

Are earwax stocks yielding high dividends?

DAVOS2009 ? Another G20+ in some new cushy location? Those names all sound nice too...Governments, are the only institutions that are allowed to fail, at such high levels, with stunning audacity, and still have the gall, to tell citizens of the globe that they are doing all they can, and still pay themselves exceedingly well, to be immune to problems being experienced by people on the ground.

So, you see the unrest of rolling mass action and strikes begin to take root across the Eurozone. UK should see major upheavals soon. USA..well, Americans seem infinitely more acceptant and tolerant of the exacerbating situation than other countries - this could be because the real wave of devastation has not really reached the more 'affluent' in ways that really require attention just yet.

World leaders are really good at 'discussing' issues - you and I can do all that daily. Perhaps they feel that their political positions somehow have elevated them to a stream of secret wisdom that only world leaders possess? Perhaps they have ascended to the levels of 'celebrity' status that somehow bypassed the meaning of 'Public Servants'?

The cost of 'listening' is infinitely less expensive, than the cost of 'not listening' . The spinword of today is 'unprecedented ' - In a political nutshell, it merely means that world leaders are clueless.

NEW Concept- World FIRST: The generation of unlimited , daily, clean electricity into the national power grid, in volumes that with implementation, will outstrip the combined power yields of wind and solar energy - Concept currently UNKNOWN as alternate energy source.

In the light of the energy problems being experienced across the globe, I would like to be afforded an opportunity to present a solution to lacking energy policy, under the framework
of a direct governmental agreement. I respectfully request such an arrangement due to the urgency of the global meltdown, avoiding the normal protocols of patents.

I would appreciate the opportunity to tender the concept, to be verified by any governmental team of engineers, planners, architects and scientists to directly present their  verified findings to the relevant senate committee.

If interested in the proposal, I can more clearly outline the potential for massive job creation, financial stimulation and stabilization of the stock markets, and all related industry, and markets and ultimately the methodology that can be applied to achieving better energy security, helping wean economies from high oil dependance.

Consideration of this proposal may lead you to conclude that less can be invested in wind/solar/biofuels, and still have a more positive energy yield. You might also consider the impacts of substantially lowered carbon emissions and the related effects on climate change that can be more directly addressed.

As you see the nations of the globe deteriorate, in spite of every stimulus effort I would urge you to understand that liquidity, in this instance, can fix nothing.

Thank you for any consideration.

Yours Sincerely.
