As you may have heard, our economy is not in the best shape, and small businesses are making many efforts to reduce costs. This means different things for different businesses, but one trend that we are likely to see is a greater focus on technology.

How can technology save us money? That's a question that many business owners are asking themselves, and this is a concept that is explored by small business technology analyst Laurie McCabe who offers her predictions for the year. McCabe says small businesses will:

- Catch the social networking wave

- Demand solutions that do more for less

- Find fresh technology alternatives more appealing

- Favor software-as-a-service over packaged software that they have to buy, install, and manage

- Increasingly turn to non-Microsoft desktops and servers

- Innovate beyond what we can anticipate
