Does Your Content Need More Links?

There Are Many Ways to Make it More Linkable

I don't think I have to tell you about the importance of quality content to establishing your reputation online. However, its the sharing of your content that is really going to bring you the exposure your great content deserves.

Crafting your content as linkbait is a great way to aid this. If you are not familiar with linkbait, it is basically a way of creating content that inspires a lot of people to link to it. Luckily there are a number of different ways that commonly work for attracting large amounts of links.

Ryan Caldwell has a fantastic article up at Search Engine Journal that looks at the "psychology of Linkbait." He talks about numerous ways to create your content to get links.

He talks about creating re-active emotions by using tactics like awe, overwhelming, flattery, sensationalizing, and humor. Then there is establishing yourself as an expert, putting new angles on established topics, making something new out of something old, quizzes and polls, and using new info (ie. breaking news, interesting announcements, etc.)

He then goes on to discuss cleaning up the content itself by making it scannable and intuitive, reducing ad clutter, using quality design, and adding useful images.

The effort you put into your content will often be reflected in the attention it generates. While you may crank out what you feel is great content that doesn't get any play, there might be some adjustments you can make to enhance its linkability. Using the guidelines laid out by Caldwell, should be a great start for getting more links.

Great content = more readership

Thanks Chris, From a customers point of view, a great content serves to purposes - more returning visitors and more chances of a referral (links) to others. A well constructed content can boost one's traffic and can make a lot of significant change to visitors.

I luv link bait.. and this

I luv link bait.. and this is one of the way to rank high quickly

Love Stink Bait

Link bait is just like Stink Bait .. when we go fishing we try and come up with the best stinking bait we can to catch the big fish!

Same goes for Link Bait.. people are not going to do much if the site's content does not match what they are looking for.

Funny.. if people would just focus on making content uniuqe as possible and provide a great service, products, information or whatever. People would like to it on their own accord.

Great content is vital....

It is very important to have the best and the most up to date content on the website, especially if you are in a very competitive field.

Quality and Original Content are a Must!

Quality content brings better search engine results, happy visitors who read our content and hopefully an opt-in subscriber or better a sale. Kudos on a well written article.

That's why...

Adding great content is why I started a forum on my safety and security web site. I try to add relevant safety information every day for my visitors and those searching for help with that issue in their life. The next step is sharing this info other places to, not only help people stay safer, but to get links back to my site. Thanks, Chris, for this article.

Great Content

Yes it appears that nothing beats great content. I have pages on my website that I try to get links to but they are PR4 pages. There is one page I do not try to optimize for since I have not decided on the keywords for it. But that page is a PR5 so many people must like that page. It is all about Happiness, Enlightenment and being Happy.

Quality content is useful for web!

Yes, if we add quality content on website, the website will become better. But i am not sure whether my content is good for my website or not.

DIY web building

One of the jewels of your words was...creating re-active emotions... How many times do we hear for instance, smoking is bad so you should quit. Although I do not, many in my family do or have. Personally it makes me sick. However I will never change my family no matter what I say or do. I am also a Nurse.

So, when you replace what they expect to hear (You Should Quit) with "it has a lot of good things going for it," it causes a re-action. Aside from the fact everyone will eventually quit, it promotes weight loss, it is a stress reducer, a great social tool, promotes commerce and agricultural businesses. There are a lot of great things going for it. (Now if they could just eliminate the cancer thing associated with it.)

No, that last comment would have to be left out. The challenge is finding that angle that allows you to keep your principles while proposing another view point, make people think, or best of all, react. In the classroom at the community college where I teach, this is one of the more challenging things to teach to web site business builders.

The web business success requires we be writers, business owners and web site builders all wrapped into one.You make a great point. The more we accomplish this, the better the web will become.
