Free Google Analytics Course Offered

Find out what sites' visitors are doing and why

Small businesses' sites would probably do best if - without angering them - owners were able to sit visitors down and interview them about the experience.  Google Analytics isn't quite that good, but at least offers a great deal of relevant data, and Google's started offering a course to get people up to speed.

On the Google Analytics Blog, Alden DeSoto explains that the course covers "web analytics techniques and Google Analytics implementation, administration, and analysis tools."  Moreover, "The course is offered free of charge to everyone who is interested."

Learn enough about Google Analytics, and you'll be able to tell when people are visiting your site, where they're coming from, and what most interests them about it (among all other sorts of things).  From there, it should be pretty easy to make improvements and see the statistics rise.

With a little bit of luck, your sales figures will go up, too, and if you use Google AdSense, your income from it is almost sure to increase.

One last note: the Google Analytics course is intended to lead up to a qualification test that costs $50.  You can easily skip that part and reap the other benefits, though.

google analytics

Thanks for this information. Google analytics has always been for a confusing system. I've not really mastered it or maybe I've not really devoted enough time to it either. But with this course I'm sure to really master it now.

Head Hurts From Too Much Wall Banging...

I have been banging my head against a brick wall trying to get my clients to look at and understand the usefullness of GA. Some of them are finally beginning to get the idea and understand what understanding GA can do for their business.

There must be an easier way to get business owners to understand the advantage of GA.

Also consider Woopra

Thanks for the article.  I must admit my analytics skills are pretty basic and having looked through a few of the things covered in the course it's clear that I'm not getting anything like the power out of analytics than I could.  One other tool I had recommended to me recently is Woopra. It's quite a different interface but has some nice features.
