Facebook Proving To Be Important Driver Of Traffic

Shows up Google in some cases

Small business owners who haven't embraced Facebook might want to rethink their marketing strategies.  It turns out Facebook isn't "only" the king of social networks; statistics indicate the thing that started as a gathering place for college kids can send more traffic to a site than Google itself.

Michael Learmonth, working off Hitwise data, reports, "[S]ince the beginning of the year, Facebook has become a bigger referring site than Google to a number of sites, including gossip sites PerezHilton.com and Dlisted, mom site CafeMom, Evite, video site Tagged.com, and, yes, Twitter."

And there's no telling how many below-the-radar sites are in the same boat.  Or even supposing that Learmonth's list represents the start and end of situations in which Facebook beats Google, there may be many cases in which Facebook at least sends three-fourths or two-thirds of Google's stream.

So go ahead and establish a corporate presence on Facebook.  Once that's done (or if you've already got one), know that Tameka Kee adds, "Much of the Facebook-driven traffic comes from links that members post via areas like 'Notes' and photos."

Doing all of this would be free, of course.  Actually buying ads on Facebook is something that perhaps isn't best for small businesses just yet.

Thanks, Doug..

I've been getting solicited by FaceBook to purchase ads from them for my safety and security web site but didn't think it would be that effective so I haven't responded. Thanks for confirming that for me. I am however on FaceBook for social marketing and raising awareness for my products by interacting with friends there and you're right, it's a good thing.

Frustrations with Google

We've been becoming more and more frustrated with Google search results.

Take, for example, our site on Debt Consolidation and Debt Triage.  It's a good site with lots of valuable content that is very important in todays economy, and yet google sends almost no traffic to the site.

I'm glad to hear that there are other ways of getting traffic besides manipulating the all powerful google into liking it buying links, (but don't get caught) etc...  Thanks for sharing the idea...  I'll look into it.

Facebook Advertising

I attended the recent Search Engine Strategies Show in New York and a big part of the discussion topics was Facebook advertising and social networking. For a small business, setting up the social networking site seems easy, but monitoring it is another story. Advertising on Facebook is something that we are looking at now for our mobile marketing site. The trick is going to be the right targeting.

facebook account

I have a personal facebook account and I am learning how to use it to drive traffic to my website about houses for rent or sale in Cebu Philippines. Your article is a great help. Thanks a lot!
