Facebook IPO Talk A Good Sign For Small Businesses

Think marketer's dream and economic recovery

According to various rumors and hopeful statements, Facebook might be moving closer to conducting an IPO, and although this idea may not mean much at first to the average small business owner, it actually has some interesting ramifications for marketing strategies and perhaps even the economy as a whole.

First off, the latest word on the subject: Facebook investor Ron Conway went on the record as having his eye on a 12-24 month window for the Facebook IPO.  Which sounds somewhat solid.

As for what that move might mean, well, you can count on an IPO creating interest in Facebook on an entirely new level.  People who haven't yet tried the social network will give it a shot, and current users will go into virtual overtime staying active.  So businesses will definitely want to have a well-established presence on Facebook at that point.

Also, since Facebook isn't yet making money hand over fist, its ability to sell stock might be a signal that the economy will be in better shape.  People aren't liable to invest in a website if lines for bread are forming in the streets, after all.

Consider keeping an eye out for Facebook news, then, or at least sending a positive thought or two Mark Zuckerberg's way.

Good Sign for Small Business

I am pleased so far with the approach that Facebook has taken to welcome small businesses into multiple features like pages, groups and PPC advertising. It seems they have a solid marketing and advertising plan and the masses are continuing to provide traffic.

Thanks...

As a web site owner of safety and security products using FaceBook for social marketing purposes, this is good news. Thanks, Doug, for sharing.

Very solid ideas in there! Thanks!

I'm a entrepeneur who just filed a business license to operate a corporate news outlet. This is good news for me, because I intend to reach a much bigger audience than just video game players. All I would need is funding to push advertising.

Facebook going public

This would be an interesting one to watch. We are active investors, Facebook users, and Advertisers on Facebook. Huge audience. I think once they can optimize their delivery and work to avoid some of the ad banner blindness, they might have something. Bob & Scott The Bob and Scott Show (on iTunes)

Facebook IPO

I think this IPO will shoot through the roof initially. Facebook has begun selling advertising and the response for internet marketers has been great.  The advertising for our mobile marketing site on Facebook has worked great.

Facebook for Parents Now

It's absolutely amazing to me how Facebook has gone from the high schoolers to those contacting friends for the 25th high school reunion!  Want to see what the captain of the cheerleaders looks like now?

The kids don't like it, but they are already hooked.  I wonder if they will move away from Facebook now that their parents are on it?
