Link-Related Advice From Bing

Traditional wisdom endures

First things first: this article isn't meant as an insult to your intelligence; we realize that most small business owners with websites have probably learned a lot about linking already.  But at the same time, a refresher rarely hurts, and this one might have special significance since it's connected to Microsoft's new search engine, Bing.

Bing logoAfter all, at least a few people will use Bing instead of Google and Yahoo, and you'll want to make sure that they find your business just as easily as the rest.  So a Bing Community post titled "Links: the good, the bad, and the ugly - Part 1 (SEM 101)" appears worth a look to make sure the newest competitor hasn't turned tradition on its head.

The good news: it hasn't.  The Bing Community post starts by comparing links to endorsements, and points out that the endorsements of some sites are worth more than those of others.  Then, the post explains that relevance is also an issue.

Finally, there's the matter of quantity vs. quality, and Bing is interested in the latter more than the former.

As you might have guessed from the "Part 1" in the Bing Community post's title, additional doses of advice are on the way.  If the tips aren't obvious - or if they are but seem comforting - we'll see about covering them here.

Bing Market Share

You have to be impressed by the market share that BING has at this early stage.  According to ComScore, BING was at 12.1% in the second week of June.  In checking my analytics on our college fantasy football site, it sent about 15% of the traffic to us in June to date.

Getting traffic too...

In checking my safety and security web site stats, I'm finding the Bing traffic growing every day. Thanks, Bing!

 Imagine with the power to

Imagine with the power to bring up data for historical trends, and capture real time searches. Any marketer from any industry can monetize from this tool. An example a family looling for some disney hideaway for their next vacation, or a homeowner is looking to install their window with West coast Vinyl, a hi tech window replacement company.

Traffic growing every day to my site. Thanks!

Bing Traffic is Good!

Since the change from MSN.com to Bing, I have noticed a bit more traffic to my site. I know I have some work to do to get more of the traffic.  Also, I like the search engine, it's prety cool!

Shocking ...

Some links are worth more than others.

We prefer quality to quantity.

Wow - revolutionary stuff.  Good thing they're distancing themselves from what Google's been saying for the past 5 years. :)

Contradictory

Great information, but unfortunately in our opinion this information goes somewhat contrary to what Google would say about link development, which makes catering to this specific set of guidelines difficult when Google retains marketshare.

Posting Ad Links

How do you get free information to learn how to post ads. I am tired of people trying to sell me the information.

Quality trumps quantity

In the topic of quality vs quantity, quality always wins except in cases where quanity is bringing along the quality.
