First things first: this article isn't meant as an insult to your intelligence; we realize that most small business owners with websites have probably learned a lot about linking already.  But at the same time, a refresher rarely hurts, and this one might have special significance since it's connected to Microsoft's new search engine, Bing.

After all, at least a few people will use Bing instead of Google and Yahoo, and you'll want to make sure that they find your business just as easily as the rest.  So a Bing Community post titled "Links: the good, the bad, and the ugly - Part 1 (SEM 101)" appears worth a look to make sure the newest competitor hasn't turned tradition on its head.

The good news: it hasn't.  The Bing Community post starts by comparing links to endorsements, and points out that the endorsements of some sites are worth more than those of others.  Then, the post explains that relevance is also an issue.

Finally, there's the matter of quantity vs. quality, and Bing is interested in the latter more than the former.
