Marketing to the Carefree

Not Everyone Is Letting the Economy Slow Down Their Spending

If you're a regular reader of SmallBusinessNewz, you've probably read a few recent posts based on another post from Google about marketing during the recession. In that original post, Google's Yael Davidowitz looked at four different segments and listed some tactics for marketing to each of them.

So far, we've looked at marketing to:

- The Frugal
- The Optimistic, but Cautious
- The Well Off

The final segment that Davidowitz talks about is the "live-for-today" segment. This is the group that just doesn't care so much about the state of the economy (as long as they still have a job). Basically, they're spending the money they have. His tactics for this are:

- Use social networking to generate buzz around your product and let consumers know what they may be 'missing out' on.

- Promote exciting new products as 'must-haves'. This group has a profound appreciation for all things novel.

- Remind them of the quality of life benefits to buying now, for example, "Buy it now, before someone else does".

- Challenge these consumers to 'seize the moment' - they tend to enjoy seeing themselves as a bit impulsive.

We discuss social media marketing at SmallBusinessNewz all the time, so this seems like a good opportunity to go ahead and share some article in this area. Check these out to get more out of your social media efforts and reach this crowd:

Marketing in the Recession

Although we are in a recession one fact is good - and that is the fact that people are still spending. So it is paramount that you get your products and services out there through any means possible, social networking, forum postings, blog postings etc. Although pay per click can be costly all the above methods are free and can drive vast amounts of traffic/business to your website.

Crime is up...

I find marketing my safety and security web site during a recession is a bit easier since crime is up. Even the well to do have a need for security cameras and security alarms. Thanks, Chris.
