Video Explains Best PracticesGoogle has a helpful video up on its Google Webamster Central YouTube channel about Google Product Search for webmasters. The video covers areas like benefits and background, best practices when submitting info, frequently asked questions, and healing pain points.
Benefits of Product Search
Submission to Google Product Search is free and its rankings are unbiased. This means that just because someone is an AdWords user or a Google Checkout user, they won't have any extra ranking boost. With Google Product Search, customers can research products, get descriptions and reviews, etc
Results can show up in Google's universal search results on the main search engine. This can occur in either the "onebox" shopping result (in the US, UK, and Germany) or a product search link called "shopping." When a user clicks on this, they can see product pages that show reviews , specs, and seller ratings.
Google Product Search is supported by Google Base. To get your products into Google Base, you can submit them in one of four ways:
1. Manual Submission - Go to Google Base and submit your items. Google only recommends this for if you have fewer than 5 items.
2. Feeds (tab-delimited text or xml)
3. Store connector for upload of existing items - this is for when you have a store somewhere else (like eBay for example). It allows you to also get the items listed in Google Base.
4. Google Base API (upload, update, delete items)
Watch the video to learn more about the best practices (starting about 5:00 in) for submitting your feeds to Google Base. If you're selling products online, it might be a good idea to check it out if you haven't done so.

Google base works for us
We regularly upload thousands of items and get very nice results.
Google changes the rules often but it's worth a try.

I'm there...
I've been using Google Base to market my safety and security products for some time now. I selected my most popular and best selling products and added them manually. Depending on how you list them you will have to renew the listing each month or it will go in the inactive file. I just make a notation on my calendar to go in and renew those listings a head of time and then they're good for another month.
We are in Google Base
We have about 10000 products for the UK and the same in the US. We upload a different file for each country. It works well for us. We are using base attributes as they become more an more important with time.
Sell more Online
This was a very informative article for me because I didn't know much about Google Base. I hope to implement this for our telecom products and our online dating services.
google products
I found it a bit fiddly creating the feed, but well worth the effort. You dont need hundreds of items, just a few key products will get the traffic.
