YouTube Readying New Channel Design

Online marketers should prepare for switch

Small businesses that have presences on YouTube are going to be subjected to a sort of forced redecoration in the near future.  New channel designs are on the way, and depending on what sort of category you fall into, will take over on either July 15th or July 29th.

The difference lies in whether your YouTube channel is the same as any other (prepare for upheaval on the 15th) or is an official "brand channel" (hello, 29th).  But a key point is that you can switch over to the new channel design any time you please, which will hopefully allow you to an opportunity to get accustomed to it.

If you'd like a sort of preview, the following video highlights a lot of the new design's advantages.  The new design should prove advantageous once you get past the setup time.

Or, if you'd rather not lose four minutes of your life to the clip, here's a key point as outlined on the YouTube Biz Blog: the new design "helps channel owners customize their channels in a simple manner, choosing exactly which videos and playlists to present to visitors."

Also, "as users will spend more time watching videos on channels, we want to make sure that our content partners are able to run advertising against their videos whether on the watch page or on a channel."
