Firefox Compatibility Becomes More Important Than Ever

Today, Firefox hit billion-download mark

We've talked before about making websites compatible with Google Chrome, and that remains an important goal.  But today, let's discuss an even more basic step - ensuring Firefox compatibility - because Firefox has reached the billion-download mark.

According to the latest Net Applications data, Firefox has an overall market share of about 22.39 percent.  That's far too significant a portion of the population to ignore, and if you cater to a techie sort of crowd, it's likely that your business's site receives even more Firefox traffic.

Making sure that your site's compatible with Firefox is important, then.  Check that your site doesn't get goofed up by the most popular Firefox add-ons, too - it would be pretty bad if Adblock Plus rendered 75 percent of your online store invisible.

As for how else you might give a nod to Firefox's billion-download accomplishment, you could always consider actively promoting the browser.  From an objective standpoint, Firefox is fast and full of useful features, so newcomers should appreciate getting introduced.

Also, even if people are already familiar with it, Firefox is regarded as a very positive thing in certain circles, especially compared to Microsoft's Internet Explorer.  So you could get "warm fuzzies" points.  Plus, siding against the gigantic corporation would just be fitting for a small business.

Firefox compatibility

I have found that preparing web sites to work with Firefox and Safari for that matter has been a breeze, I cant comment on Chrome as I haven't done anything with it. Getting the same sites to work with Internet Explorer has resulted in me having to make compromises reducing the user experience.

Most problems being to do with forms and any sort of Google add on such as search. On Firefox everything works. Then after testing with IE things don't work as they should. One web feature that I use is Unity3D for interative 3D presentations. I was able to hash everything together using Freeway post it up on the web and it worked. Then testing with IE, it didn't resulting in me having to hand code the relevant pages and reducing the polished look that I ideally want. - Follow the links to the examples of this page Real time 3D

However most users visiting my sites are using IE so I need to make sure it works for them above all.

 What makes Firefox so

What makes Firefox so special is its open source. Has many extension and/or plugins that can make your web surfing beneficial, even for your business. At West Coast Vinyl we tink around with chrome and firefox.
