Marketing to Moms Online

Google Compiles Useful Statistics

Google company blogs are always good for useful information, whether that be with regards to search, advertising, web analytics or other things. Yael Davidowitz-Neu of the Google Retail Team has a good post up about marketing to mom's online, in which information from several studies is compiled.

Stats worth noting:

- There are about 34 million moms online

- Many of them learn about products for the first time not via TV, but online

- They often turn to web resources like online reviews and search to follow up

- They seek online destinations for purchasing to save time

- 70% of online moms made a purchase on the web in the past 12 months

- Their top 3 categories were apparel and accessories (36% made a purchase); books, music and video (31%); and toys and games (24%)

- 38% of moms in one survey spent at least $200 on online purchases over the past year

- 13% spent $1,000 or more

"For marketers looking to reach this group, there are a multitude of ways to do so," says Davidowitz-Neu. "Moms are both regular searchers and frequent visitors to parenting and family, news, weather and political content sites."

Based on the chart provided, it would appear that links and sponsored search results are the best ways to reach moms with online marketing. As more and more time is being spent on social networks, I wouldn't count those out either though.

Marketing to Moms

Great article as always Chris!  I'd love to know which sponsored search results are the 3 top for various categories.  I've tried several and have my favorites, I'm curious what others are.

Thanks!

Moms and Dads...

I have mom's shopping for personal protection products on my safety and security web site but the Dad's seem to be the ones interested in my nanny cams. Mom may be the one to search them out but Dad is usually the one that does the purchasing.

My target market

Hi Chris, a very interesting article as moms at home are my target market. Personally i find that Facebook and Twitter work really well, and they are free so nothing to loose really, apart from a little bit of my time. http://www.facebook.com/breastmates Regards Frances
