The Web is rife with reports concerning people's searches; it takes very little time to find out what's holding adults' interest at any given moment.  If your small business caters to children, though, info's a little trickier to find, and a new report from Symantec may help.

Symantec tracked 3.5 million searches performed by users of its OnlineFamily.Norton service between February and July of this year.  It then compiled a list of the top 100 terms for which kids searched.

The first few - YouTube, Google, and Facebook - may give you an idea of how to reach kids online.  Numbers 7, 10, 11, and 12 (Yahoo, eBay, and alternate spellings of YouTube) should do the same.

Then here are some more specific items of interest.  Michael Jackson was eighth on the list.  Fred (turn down your volume and look him up on YouTube, if you dare) placed ninth.  Miley Cyrus, Webkinz, games, and Taylor Swift were popular, too.

Now, you may have noticed some holes in the numbering system between the items we documented.  That's basically because even kids are perverts, and small businesses shouldn't try to appeal to their interest in sex, porn, and boobs.  But if frightening parents can help you out, the info may still prove relevant.

Otherwise, good luck using the list of search terms to your advantage through more traditional approaches to marketing.
