A Focus On The Environment May Save Money

FPB advisor talks proactive approach, 5-10% of bottom line costs

Earlier today, there was a small fire at Google's UK headquarters, and the incident (in which no one was hurt, but a tree was reported burned) fairly well illustrated that safety is more important than "greenness."  Still, a new report indicates that a focus on environmental issues can save small businesses money.

FPB LogoThe FPB looked at survey results indicating that people tend to speak highly of environmental initiatives, but then put a greater emphasis on things like skills training and health- and safety-related subjects.

The FPB's Environmental Adviser, Miranda Allan, who's also the Managing Director of Allan Environmental Solutions, responded by saying in a statement, "Adopting a purely fire-fighting strategy when it comes to managing your environmental burden can leave companies out of pocket.  I would instead encourage firms of any size to try to reap the financial rewards available to those who take a more proactive stance."

She believes that small businesses can save up to ten percent of their bottom line costs by doing so.

That's quite a lot of money to miss out on, and so small business owners might do well to see if they can recoup some of it.  Just don't forget to inform employees to not catch trees on fire while holding rooftop barbecues.

Focus On Environment Saves Money

Balance is of course a logical approach to saving money for any reason. It takes more than one approach to achieve any amount of savings and reduced impact on the environment, in my opinion. The environment is impacted by many things and I contend that we are not putting enough emphasis on the vehicles we use. We are hooked on using petroleum based oils for lubricants and fuel, either by choice, ignorance or big corp moguls.

I'll start with an easy topic for me. Synthetic lubricants and related fuel additive products will reduce the impact on the environment to the tune of a minimum of 5% and more on the bottom line. Not all products in this category are as productive as one might think or want to believe. Amsoil Inc. has been in business for thirty-five years committing its mission to reducing operation and maintenance expenses and reducing a range of environmental components from impacts the vehicles and equipment we use on a daily basis. Truckers offer testimonials how they have experienced significant savings by using Amsoil synthetics because of the basic benefit of the extended oil change intervals and reduced down time, reduced heat issues in extreme conditions, ie. inclines on the California I-5, etc. Petroleum based oils vaporize, gradually doing a disappearing act and leaving behind sludge. On the other end of the thermometer, the below zero temperatures the environment throws at us is a non-issue when synthetics are in engines and transmissions because of the absence of hydrocarbons. Paraffin in petroleum solidifies, making in difficult for an engine and drive train to turn over when the starter kicks in. "Hello wear and tear". I love the example of the show and tell that I saw. Two containers, one with petroleum based motor oil, the other with superior synthetic, taken out of a cooler of dry ice. The synthetic sample poured like water at -50 while the petroleum based oil was like molasses in January

If you're curious about synthetics, see www.lubedealer.com/hiebert for more information.

If you buy all those fuel

If you buy all those fuel savers, spark boosters and other rubbish that ebay still allow to be sold you'd end up with more fuel in your tank at the end of the journey than when you started.

Must be good for the enviroment
