Earlier this year, Google hosted an event called "Searchology," at which the company announced its search options. These options come in the form of a link on Google's search results pages, which simply says, "show options."
Within these options, is an option called "Wonder Wheel." It's been around a while, so there is a good chance you've heard of it, so if so, great. If not, it's a way to search for related searches in a graphical way. It looks like this:
You can click around on it and bring up new wheels based on the related search you clicked on. So if you clicked on "nike shoes" in the above example, you would get other searches related to "nike shoes".
You can keep going with this as long as you wish, and it is one way for a searcher to expand their quest for finding the information they're looking for. However, if you search well enough to begin with, chances are, you won't have a whole lot of use for this.
Google's Matt Cutts makes a great point about the Wonder Wheel in the following video though. If you use it as more of a keyword-generating tool, you may find it useful indeed.

Interesting that the wonder wheel is using a flash application to perform the task. Really have not seen many tools of Google use flash.

Wonder Wheel Wonderful
When I first used it there seemed to be little value to me.
Then when typing in more niche topics it provided realted search terms that I had missed. Some although having less demand also had almost no competition. It was low lying fruit.

Touchgraph
I remember trying this technology out years ago when it was called Touchgraph. I didn't know the company was related to Google. Here is the Touchgraph homepage. They have some interesting products and news on the site. The visual search methodology is a good way to see relationships that you might otherwise miss with normal search.

Holiday Season and the Wonderwheel
This tool is especially good right now...when searches are at their highest for me. We sell promise jewelry and Christmas is our biggest time of the year. Using this tool I was able to get a lot more keywords into our site, which might not take effect this year, but will make me much more ready for the 2010 season.
I also use their time based tool a lot...helps me find forum posts that are fairly recent.
