Generally speaking, it's hard to disapprove of government spending cuts.  Considering that so many countries are billions or trillions of dollars in debt, ideas that'll stem the flow of cash often seem great.  But the Forum of Private Business has spoken out against the idea of the UK government lessening its support for small businesses.

The FPB's Policy Representative, Matt Goodman, said in a statement, "Government cuts should not include those programmes that are making a real difference for struggling firms.  The next 18 months will be crucial.  As the main drivers of growth, small businesses need to be placed at the heart of plans for economic recovery so they can make the most of future opportunities."

Specifically, Goodman and the FPB would like to see a successor to the Enterprise Finance Guarantee program (which will expire in less than six months) created.

They'd also like to see the money that's been put towards the less-than-popular Trade Credit Insurance initiative split among different things, rather than just get reclaimed.

This way, even if the recession is completely over, small businesses might receive a helping hand of sorts as they try to resume normal operations.  And if it's not, necessary aid measures would already be in place.
