Survey Finds Reviews on Your Site Can Increase Sales
Reviews Can Build Trust, Traffic, and Sales
RatePoint shared some interesting findings about reviews today. Of those who integrated reviews into their business web sites, 43 percent of the respondents to a survey indicated an increase in sales and 28 percent said they experienced an increase in traffic. Only 30 percent of respondents had actually integrated the reviews.
"Research clearly shows that peer reviews increase consumer trust when shopping online," said Neal Creighton, CEO of RatePoint. "Small businesses who have implemented reviews on their site are uniquely positioned to stand apart this holiday season as shoppers look to transact with sites and brands they can trust."
"Reviews help small business owners learn more about how customers use their products, find latent issues with their site or shopping process they hadn’t yet discovered and most importantly, find satisfied customers whose positive feedback will build trust with potential customers," he added. "Missing out on all of the information and opportunities that reviews provide is something that small businesses simply can’t afford to do."
Some small business owners think reviews can be damaging to a brand, but according to RatePoint, data has shown that reviews are much more likely to impact a business in a positive way. Accroding to a July survey, reviews were six times more likely to make a positive impact.
Research from Deloitte & Touche found that over 82 percent of those who read reviews said their purchasing decisions have been directly influenced by those reviews. Ratepoint notes that feedback also continues to spread virally; 69 percent of consumers who read reviews share them with friends, family or colleagues.
Obviously Ratepoint has a vested interest in sharing such information, given that they offer customer feedback tools, but the data is interesting nonetheless. Do you include reviews on your site? Have you noticed an impact? Positive or negative?

Not yet but...
I haven't included a rate element to my safety and security web site yet but it sounds like a great idea! As a consumer, you are absolutely right when it comes to the ratings other customers give products; they definitely influence my purchasing decision. I think it goes back to the whole social networking thing. It's just safer to talk with someone who has purchased and is using the product you're considering buying to find out if it's going to be a good product for you too. Especially now, with the economy, consumers don't want to tie up extra money in shipping charges by having to send purchases back. It's just better to do some research first. Thanks, Chris, for sharing this great information.
Reviews and Testimonials
I always encourage my clients to use either Reviews or Testimonials within their Websites. It is a way for a potential client or customer to feel better about you as a business. For those of you worrying about the damage, I say to you, focus on providing the best service you can and then going the extra mile and you won't have a problem. Yes, we do make an error now and again that could bother one person where it would not bother another, but in the long run, if 90% of your reviews are favorable, then potential clients usually will not bat an eye. It will also provide you with the opportunity to correct issues and improve your business!
Increase Sales
If you have products and services that you sell over the Internet, you probably want to know how to increase your online sales. There are different options for this, but most of them have to do with spreading the word about your products and services.
