Online Coupons Gaining Momentum

Study indicates they'll become more and more popular with consumers

Financial lessons don't always stick with people; sales of SUVs picked up months after gas prices went back down, for example, potentially locking their owners into low MPG figures for years.  Still, the results of a new study show that coupons will become a better and better way to attract customers.

Think people are clipping a lot of coupons now?  Well, they are.  But the predicted growth in this field is kind of incredible, and what's more, the study looked at online coupons, so small businesses that don't have brick-and-mortar stores can also get in on the game.

Here are the stats, then.  Mark Walsh wrote late yesterday, "In a new report, Borrell Associates estimates that the $8.3 billion value of online coupons redemptions in 2009 (including via the Internet, email and mobile) will jump more than 50% to $12.7 billion in 2010 and to $22 billion by 2014."

And it's a good bet that all of those coupons won't just be applied to purchases that would've been made, anyway, so companies that choose to not offer coupons may miss out on a lot of business.

Even companies that have found print coupons to be ineffective should think again.  Walsh reported, "Borrell pointed to a study by Nielsen partner NeuroFocus tracking consumer brainwave activity, which found that online coupons outperformed print ones in categories such as attention, emotional engagement, memory retention and effectiveness."

Vacation Coupons

I  would like to give away a coupon for a 3 day 2 night stay at a hotel in exchange for leads for people who would take a tour of one of my resorts and can not come up with an idea that is really good to add to my website. It is costly to give these away so need to come up with some idea that will reinburse me for the vaction certificates. Anyone have any good ideas they would like to share?

creating online coupons

I have been trying to find sites that allow you to print online coupons.  We have a small custom jewelry design studio.  And, I know, that many women do not like to leave their jewelry for repair and come back later to pick it up. So, I would like to know the best way to find sites to post a  coupon that is good for 50% off (up to $15 value) in jewelry repair and that we will repair while you wait.  Do you have any lists of such sites?

Print screen

This isn't exactly a high-tech solution, but you could always just put the coupons on your site and suggest that customers print the screen. Would give you more control and make them jump through fewer hoops.

Re:

Since coupons are free and they do provide a discount, it is the perfect method to use for cutting costs, getting more for your money, and freeing up finances while cutting back on the expenses.

Not yet...

I haven't done coupons yet for my safety and security web site but it sounds like a good idea. Thanks, Doug.
