Advertising in the Year 2010

What Trends Will This Year Bring?

Now that 2009 is behind us, everybody is looking forward to a year of success, and anticipating marketing and advertising trends of the new year and the new decade. What trends do you anticipate? Share them here.

Nielsen shared some projections for advertising trends in 2009 recently:

    1. Optimizing media convergence is a top priority.
    2. New models emerge to take advantage of smartphones.
    3. More cross-media ad campaigns surface.
    4. Commercialization of social networking hubs increase.
    5. More interesting and interactive online ads appear.

"A better understanding of media convergence will manifest in order to deliver a better return on investment," the firm says. "The ability to accurately measure activity and link online ads to offline purchasing behavior will be critical."

Cross MediaWorks shared some other interesting predictions. That firm says there will be an improvement in ad spending in 2010, particularly by the automotive, financial, and healthcare industries, but spending will not get back to pre-downturn levels.

They also think there will be more emphasis on measurement of performance, with data being incorporated from other areas, such as shopping carts, social media, and credit cards.

Cross MediaWorks thinks advertising on both broadcast and cable television will remain the most cost-effective option for advertisers, with viewership increasing, and that spending on online and mobile will not get ahead of television for at least eight to ten years. A WebProNews reader sees it a different way though:

With the increasing internet consciousness, people are beginning to spend more and more time on the web than anything else. In fact, with live streaming and all making it big, they also watch TV shows and movies on the WWW which ultimately leads to less and less time watching the television.

Keeping this in mind, I see a surge in online advertising and it might as well surpass print and television ads in the coming times.

Cross MediaWorks also thinks that while smartphones will continue to pave the way for content platforms to emerge to drive more users to mobile sites, what is considered a valuable mobile ad will remain undefined until that happens. The firm also says, "In the coming year, there will be a greater emphasis on 'active eyeballs' as opposed to 'passive eyeballs' with regards to online advertising and online ads will get more visual, [and] include multimedia."

What kinds of advertising/marketing/media trends do you anticipate as we get rolling into 2010? Do you agree with the predictions discussed? Tell us what you think.

Passing TV Ad's?

Great article and the part about internet passing TV ad's would indeed be a milestone for the web. Collectively with all the combined methods and millions of advertisers it would seem that it's already happened.

More on that topic would be good to have. What's the #1 and most popular and effective ad's on the web etc..

Have a Great New Year everyone!

Q.  What do you call a Realtor in a down economy?

A.  Unemployeed.

With so many real estate sales staff not making the money they used to, they will be ripe for the picking as seasoned sales professionals.

Marketers will start targeting them to sell their wares.

As old marketing methods continue to not work, more businesses will embrace internet marketing. This will probalby bring continual growth to the internet and internet related jobs.

Those who master the web will have better success.

Several MLM (multi level marketing) companies claim to have hit the 100 million mark in less than a decade. With Real Estate Giant Keller Williams being MLM, more and more will jump into the MLM model.

Trends Anticipating In New Year

My prediction for trends advertisers will use in the new year is two fold. First, increased use of technology, ie. the cell phone will be the target as a destination for text and voice mail messages. In spite of cellphone use while driving ban, people will use the blu-tooth to stay connected. The other strategy I see use more lately and will be used more in my opinion is the Internet. Along with iemails, unsolicited or an opt-in type, "webinars" and social networking, whatever will fits into this genre will be used with increased frequency. Product ideas and the necessary creativity will determine, not withstanding, which and what trend will be put to work. Here, web sites will see changes in how they show off these products. For example, products will be shown in voice over power point. Advertising will not stop with just showing a brand and price, it will show a video and testimonial. There are people who are closer to this than I but this is the way I see it.

Advertising

Being in the mobile ad business also provides Apple valuable insights into how consumers are using other vendors’ smartphones.

The end of classical advertising.

Thanks to the new technologies, people are much more aware of visual communications. Imagine the number of pictures taken in the world every day, imagine the number of videos seen eveyday... A new generation has a new visual education. People are now creative. This will give new responsabilities to art directors and advertisers. Advertising in the future, wether online or offline, will need to find fresh and unconventional ways to talk to this visually educated audience.

Many thanks to Chris for the excellent articles.

i think the future of advertising is going to change dramatically this year. I think the last year has just shown how quickly things can change. I think more companies will try and think out of the box and will start going all out on videos and sites like compare the meerkat to drive traffic and advertising.
