Google Putting Local Business Hours in Universal Search Results

The Latest in Google's Long Line of Local Search Enhancements

Google continually makes enhancements to not just its search algorithm in general, but to local search elements. We have discussed quite a few of these recently, because frankly, Google seems to be doing a lot more with local search lately.

To review, here are some other recently discussed topics related to local search, specifically through Google:

- Statewide results and multiple businesses with one number
- Location-based suggestions for users
- Complications of Google Favorite Places
- Near Me Now feature for smartphone users
- Wikipedia's role?
- More specific reviews for Place Pages

Last week, Google quietly rolled out another change. On the Official Google Blog, Johanna Wright, Director of Product Management, Search writes:

Want to know when your favorite museum is open? Interested in ordering in and need to quickly check the menu for that restaurant around the corner? This week we were excited to launch hours and menu information in local results for universal Google search. Now you can add the words "hours" or "menu" to your search to get back the information you want in a snap.

Example searches: [
computer history museum mountain view hours ], [ sushi sakae burlingame menu ]

Hopefully you are already including your business hours on your site, but you may be able to get them to show up right in Google's results pages from this point on. Assuming you want them to get to your brick and mortar store and not your e-commerce store, that's one less click you have to worry about.

Could be helpful in

Could be helpful in checking the menu on restaurant before going there. Especially there ones you haven't been before.

Sounds great for...

This all sounds great if you have a brick and mortor store but my safety and security store is online only. Thanks, Chris.

Local Search is broken down

Local Search is broken down into two categories. The first category of Local Search is using the Google Map feature.  Optimizing business listing content for Google Local is much different than search engine optimizing for the organic search engine results.
