FPB Chief Exec Warns Of Double-Dip Recession

Talks of economic fragility, political instability

According to the Forum of Private Business's chief executive (and, perhaps, common sense) small business owners shouldn't start giving away caviar samples and coating everything in gold just because the recession technically ended.  Indeed, Phil Orford warned that we could head back into recession territory.

FPB LogoOrford said in a statement released today, "The question has to be asked, why does it require two quarters of economic decline to enter a recession and only one quarter of growth to exit it?  Hand on heart, nobody looking at 0.1% growth in quarter four would say that we turned the corner.  The risk of a double-dip remains."

The chief exec also added, "Further, the economic fragility and political instability caused by the looming election will do little to build the confidence small business owners need, to define investment and growth strategies for 2010 and beyond."

So assuming you haven't taken it too far and are actually subsisting on nothing more than canned food, consider sticking to the bunker mentality adopted by many small business owners during the recession.

If it proves unnecessary, you'll just have more money to your name when the economy recovers.  And of course, if a bunker mentality does prove crucial, the benefits of being able to stay in business are fairly obvious.
