More Local Business Things to Keep Track of

Bing Gets Localeze Listings, AT&T Starts New Site

We've been discussing local search a lot lately, and that's because a lot of new things keep happening in this space, and as you know it's a very important element of small business marketing and general visibility to customers. A lot of what we have focused on relates to things that Google has been doing.

Google is very important to pay attention to for obvious reasons, but that's not to say that its the only site to pay attention to. Microsoft's Bing search engine has some new local search things in the works. According to Leena Rao at TechCrunch, Localeze announced that it will be powering some of Bing's local search results. Localeze has about 14 million listings, which would be used in Bing Local and Bing 411.

"As part of the deal, Bing will use Localeze’s premium business content, including more than 500,000 business-verified and managed listings, which have been edited directly by local businesses," reports Lao. "In addition to name/address and contact info, Localeze’s listings also include hours of operation, products and services offered, credit cards accepted and more. All of this information will appear on Bing’s local business profiles. Any local search results on Bing utilizing Localeze content will be attributed to Localeze."

Buzz.com

AT&T is launching a new Yelp-type local site called Buzz.com. The description supplied on the site (which isn't quite ready yet) says:

Want to know the best places to go or businesses to call? Let buzz.com help you tap your social net for business recommendations from the people you trust most – your friends and family.

It's early to tell how mainstream this will go, but it is from AT&T, who operates YellowPages.com, and it is certainly something you'll want to keep an eye on if you're trying to drive customers to your store. It could be a potential reputation management resource as well.

Not for me but...

The local searches won't really help my safety and security businesss since it's on line only but it may help a local business that I do marketing for. Thanks, Chris.

 Being in the local search

Being in the local search market is important, because most biz are local, not the ecommerce that tailors nationwide. However, with that said ecommerce site in the epoxy paint industry can still take advantage of the local market as well, by positioning their brand,  Nice info!

Smart move

More and more organisations (like big phone companies) are using online directories to return local search results. Often these businesses don't have the time or resources to dedicated to their website. But they'll list in as many directories as possible. So it's not really a surprise Bing has decided to use this sort of resource to add value and relevance to its search.

The Value of Yelp?

Hmmm, I am not sure of the value of Yelp and other review sites as it seems people only bother to got to those when they have something they want to complain about not give praise about.  No matter what anyone says about another business, it could be skewed or unfounded, it really gives people an avenue that can be abused.

Listings

Exposure for your biz is always a good thing.
