U.S. Small Businesses Under Attack

Cyber Attackers Hope to Give Small Businesses Sad Endings

For small businesses, a once upon a time fairytale is fictional when it comes to the increasing number of cyber attack threats occuring on the web.

Dr. Victor Larson, Director of Research and Development with VirnetX Holding Corporation (California-based secure real-time communications company with patented technologies derived from a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) security project), said, "U.S. small business executives are vulnerable to cyber attacks and will see a huge surge in the number of data breaches unless measures are immediately taken to secure critical infrastructure."

"The National Cyber Security Alliance recently confirmed that the vast majority of small businesses lack focus and awareness of the growing cyber attack threat."

This a crucial time for small businesses to comprehend the danger cyber criminals are capable of creating. The economic system we live in accounts for 20 million small businesses in the U.S., many playing a significant role in various communities.

The National Cyber Security Study reported that out of those 20 million small businesses, 53 percent of them inspect their anti-spyware, anti-virus, firewall and operating systems weekly and 11 percent never do.

Dr. Larson said "Small businesses today have shifted from paper records to electronically stored information. This so-called digitalization process has helped small businesses attain a dramatically more efficient way of doing business.  On the other hand, this has also opened new doors for cyber criminals to penetrate a small businesses' data system. This trend could result in massive financial and retail security fraud and breaches over the next decade."

These criminals have a primary goal and continue their journey until they find what they are looking for. Money. Grasping this concept is the only way to move forward in protecting yourself and your business.

NCSA Executive Director, Michael Kaiser, hands us the truth in a statement all small businesses should carry with them. ""To the millions of very savvy entrepreneurs across our nation, our message is simple - being smart about the online safety of your employees, business and customers is a critical part of doing business. Cybersecurity is not a nice thing to have for American businesses, it is critical to their survival."

Now that awareness of these cyber attacks have been brought to attention, small businesses need to take necessary steps in building protection. This will insure safety and leave businesses with a happily ever after ending.
