Energy Companies Giving Small Businesses Raw Deal

Price hikes not distributed in equal fashion

Small business owners who haven't already done so should look at lining door jams with weather stripping, shutting off empty rooms, covering windows with thick curtains, and purchasing programmable thermostats.  New data shows that energy companies in the UK are making it tough to save money.

FPB LogoA report issued yesterday by the Forum of Private Business stated, "The latest industry data available from the Government shows that average electricity prices for small and medium sized firms increased by 15-17% between the third quarter of 2008 and the same period of 2009.  However, prices increased by 9-11% for large businesses and by just 5% for the UK's biggest companies."

A similar pattern established itself with respect to the price of gas, too, as prices rose 8 percent for small businesses but fell 14 to 52 percent for other companies.

This may not come as a surprise, given that big organizations have always been able to negotiate better deals in so many areas.  Still, it's not exactly good news.

Small businesses owners should at least consider their options in terms of utility companies, in addition to performing the energy-saving measures listed in the first paragraph.

Small Business Costs

Their are mainy reason many small businesses are failing to recieve the same saving on their energy purchase as larger customers. One of the main ones is that the majority of small business don't take their energy purchase seriously. I have found most small business have been loyal to their current supplier and have never considered leaving which has led to their supplier taking advantage and adding approximately 10-20% extra on each time. At http://www.businessenergyswitch.com we've given small business an opertunity to see the market price for their supply so they know how much they should be paying.

Energy Companies Giving Small Business

According to a recent survey, IT-related risks are a surprisingly low priority for many business continuity planners. It's time for CIOs to step up and ensure that this trend doesn't get out of hand.
