As expected, the UK's proposed 2010 budget hasn't exactly sent small business owners over the moon.  A sentiment somewhere between "unhappy" and "unimpressed" seems to be the typical response, judging from survey results posted by the Forum of Private Business.

According to a formal release, "when asked how they rated the Budget overall, only 10% of Forum members described it as 'good' or 'very good,' with 52% branding it 'average' and 38% describing it as 'poor' or 'very poor.'"

As for what sort of effect the Budget is expected to have, consumer and business confidence were widely estimated to remain about the same, with 87 percent of respondents saying that they don't believe these measurements will increase.

Of course, this stat stands out even more: "More than two thirds (70%) of respondents said they expect a more realistic Budget to be delivered after the general election."

Don't take all the reactions to the Budget as being cast in stone, then, since the Budget itself is liable to change.  But at least the existing proposal doesn't seem terrible for small businesses, and politicians probably won't dare to deviate from it too much.
