FPB Weighs In On UK Election Mess

Confusion may keep politicians from serving small businesses

The political confusion in the UK may be great for the media - newspapers, television stations, and websites are probably reaching near-record audiences as people try to figure out what's going on - but it's created a worrisome situation for small businesses.  The Forum of Private Business is concerned that political bickering will keep anything from getting achieved.

FPB LogoA statement issued by the FPB said, "Recent Forum research found that almost three quarters (70%) of small business owners were already finding it difficult to plan for 2010, even before this morning's general election result.  With a hung Parliament potentially threatening to hold up tax and spending proposals aimed at tackling Britain's record deficit, this uncertainly is likely to increase further."

So in response, "the Forum is calling for MPs to put aside their differences and create a functioning administration as soon as possible."

Hopefully all of the attention this matter is receiving will speed things along, since politicians won't want to look too obstinate in UK voters' eye.  In fact, if today's a quiet news day (no earthquakes, economic catastrophes, etc.), maybe there will be even more of an international focus on the story.

Unfortunately, since today is Friday, it's possible that not a lot will get done until the weekend's over.
