Square, which whose CEO is also one of the co-founders of Twitter, has released apps for the iPhone, iPad, and Android devices that let anyone accept credit cards via their mobile device. Need a card reader? No problem, they're sending those out for free.
It has been noted that Square cannot handle refunds or delete transactions, but it's likely only a matter of time before that's fixed.
Square's plan is to be the way people pay for stuff everywhere they go. Whether or not that actually becomes the case, they appear to be on to something special, and something we will probably see more of from other companies - the credit card reading phone app.
This could be incredibly useful for businesses, such as contractors who are mobile themselves.
The app is available in Apple's App Store and in the Android Marketplace.
