Whether or not every person who enters a small business today wishes the owner a happy National Small Business Week, it seems that small businesses are quite well thought-of by the average American. The Pew Research Center recently found that small businesses enjoy a better reputation than lots of other types of organizations.
Dan Danner, president and CEO of the National Federation of Independent Business, highlighted this fact with a press release earlier this week. And the title of the release, to give you a taste for it, was "Small Business is Country's Most Admired Institution."
Anyway, Danner explained, "New research from the Pew Research Center shows that 71 percent of Americans say small businesses have a positive effect on the way things are going in this country, more than any of the 13 sectors the group asked about."
He then continued, "At the bottom of the list are large corporations (64 percent said negative), the federal government (65 percent), Congress (65 percent) and banks and financial institutions (69 percent negative)."
So there's a nicely timed little mood booster for small business owners. Congratulations on being so popular.

American Love Small Business
While America may be having a love affair with small businesses, lawmakers in both parties hate small businesses. Republicans are devoted to BIG corporartions (like Goldman Sachs and BP), and Democrats are devoted to BIG government (and taxes). When Republicans and Democrats get together in back rooms, they talk about how to wipe-out small businesses so that they can get on with making BIG corporations and BIG government much BIGGER.
