SBA Makes It Easier For Businesses Affected By Oil Spill To Get Loans

SBA reaches out to businesses in Gulf

The U.S. Small Business Administration has changed its hours of operation of its mobile Business Recovery Center.

SBA Customer Service Representatives and Small Business Development Center Counselors are at the Center located in the Casino Beach Parking Lot at Pensacola Beach to provide one-on-one assistance. The Center is open on Friday and Saturday; June 18, 19, 25 and 26 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There are currently nine Business Recovery Centers that business owners may visit located throughout the declared counties in Florida. Small businesses and most private non-profit organizations of all sizes affected by the Deepwater BP Oil Spill that began on April 20, 2010 are eligible to apply.

"Due to the amount of economic losses caused by the BP Oil Spill, we want to make it convenient for affected businesses to have a resource where they can meet individually with SBA representatives and find out how a low-interest disaster loan can help them recover," said Frank Skaggs, director of SBA's Field Operations Center East in Atlanta.

Interest rates are 3 percent for non-profit organizations and 4 percent for businesses with terms up to 30 years. Eligibility for an EIDL is determined by the SBA based on the size and type of business and its financial resources. The SBA sets loan amounts and terms based on each applicant's financial condition.

SBA Makes It Easier for Businesses Affected

SBA provides a number of loan programs for most business purchases, including purchasing real estate, machineries and equipment, inventory, or working capital. Some loans focus on assisting businesses affected by specific economic conditions, such as those affected by defense cuts, and those at risk due to changed trade patterns with Canada and Mexico.
