Email And Social Media Paying Off For Small Business

Small businesses focusing more on email marketing

Email marketing continues to bring value to small businesses with more than 82 percent planning to increase email marketing over the next year, according to a survey from AWeber Communications.

The survey found that the more social media grows in popularity among consumers, the more attention it will receive from marketers. Almost 70 percent of small business marketers are using some form of social media tactics and a vast majority (77%) indicate that integrating email marketing and social media is either very important or moderately important.

The most popular tactics involving sharing email newsletters on Twitter (36%) and delivering blog posts via email (35%).

"As the survey results indicate, email marketing continues to be a measurable, effective tool that brings significant value to small businesses, regardless of the nature of their business," said Tom Kulzer, CEO and founder of AWeber.

"It is also evident that marketers are continuing to realize the importance of integrating their email marketing campaigns with social media activities as a way to reach a broader audience, but are still learning how to do this effectively."

Other key findings from the survey include:

*More than 66 percent of respondents indicate they intend to use behavioral targeting as well as sales tracking in their campaigns over the next 12 months.

*54 percent of respondents indicate they intend to use Facebook as a tool to help build their email lists

*Nearly 20 percent of respondents indicate that integrating email marketing and social media increased customer loyalty

*Almost 12 times as many respondents said that email marketing ROI is more easily measured than social media ROI (61.46 percent versus 5.28 percent)

Re: Email And Social Media Paying Off For Small Business

While Email is a very desirable and useful tool for small businesses, the impediment i see for small businesses is the subscription cost of a standard email marketing campaign service such as Aweber, Get Response, Trafficwave etc which is about $30 monthly. Small businesses that are just starting out and have not stabilised may have a problem with this recurring payment. On the other hand, social media being substantially free is quite within the reach of the small businesses and thus more widely utilised.

Email marketing campaign Programs

Dale:

Constant Contact is another such program and it might be slightly less expensive, but that is not the main point of my response.

There are recurring expenses and recurring expenses.  Years ago, small businesses had no choice but to contract with PennySavers and weekly newspapers, which cost more and still require a great deal of repetition to be effective, at all.  These lower cost E-mail services often charge based on the number of E-mai, addresses entered,  They have Opt-ins built in as well as great built-in newsletter graphics and they usially also allow the user to send out as many messages as they wish to over a longer period of time.

Best kept secrets in business make no money.  Some form of advertising needs to be done and the more targeted it is the better.  I think a $25 - $30 per month investment for E-mail marketing services is money well spent. Other less essential expenditures can be postponed, while the customer base is grown through successful marketing activities such as this.

Marc

affordable alternatives

There's no reason a company can't start into email marketing for a lower cost as long as they're able to afford decent web hosting. Look at software like List Messenger. The free version has a 200 subscriber limit. Hopefully by the time you're passed 200 subsribers you can afford the $50 pro license or the $150 per year hosted version or jump into something biger like Aweber that does more marketting and sales tracking then you'll get out of List Messenger.  The trick is having the time to find these reliable goodies that can get you started with a lower operating cost while you're building up a customer base. That said, $30/month really isn't that much for a good email marketing service.

Social Media Marketing

While it may be easier to measure the ROI on email marketing, I would think that social media marketing would be just as profitable for small businesses if done consistently. Older businesses I think have a hard time with this shift & run the risk of being left behind for fear of change. I agree that $30/month is quite reasonable for e-marketing services and as data shows, well worth it.

Email and Social Media

I talk about small business Internet marketing  more than anything else since a lot of people that I know are small business people. That’s why I blog about their experiences and their issues because these people are often viewed as the backbone of any true economic recovery that might take place.
