On a regular basis, small business owners and organizations point out that banks in the UK are still quite reluctant to lend money.  And to be honest, that may not change anytime soon.  But interestingly, a handful of banks have now decided to look at the matter by forming a taskforce.

Mark Kleinman reported yesterday that Stephen Green, chairman of the British Bankers' Association and HSBC, wrote a letter to George Osborne.  "Green says the taskforce will report back to the Chancellor by early October," according to Kleinman, meaning there shouldn't be too much of a delay before things get started.

As for who's involved, Kleinman continued, "The chief executives of the six major banks (including Barclays, Lloyds Banking Group and Royal Bank of Scotland) will sit on a steering group chaired by Green that will oversee the taskforce's work."

So it looks like some of the most important men in the industry have committed (or at least pretended to commit) themselves to improving the lending situation.  That means a positive development or two is likely to occur as a result, since it'd be embarrassing for them to achieve nothing.

Of course, it won't hurt for everyone else (including different members of the government) to keep applying pressure, too.
