Trick-Or-Treaters Can Benefit Your Business

Use 'em to reach moms and dads

Unless you want to spend Saturday morning removing eggs and toilet paper from your home, odds are good that you’ll be spending tomorrow night handing out candy.  Interestingly enough, though, someone’s found a way to turn this period into an advertising opportunity.

Samantha Gregory recommends simply attaching your business card to whatever piece(s) of candy you give out.  As the parents of Little Johnny and Susie go through their goody bags, making sure that razor blades and needles aren’t sticking out of Snickers bars, they’ll be greeted with a way to contact your company.

Now, we have to say, this move may come off as a little desperate, and it’s not the best way to target any particular group of people.  But here are a couple ways to make your odds of success as good as possible.

First, don’t puncture the candy’s wrapper.  Doing so would probably make it move into the "throw away" pile, earning you zero goodwill.  Second, see about being generous with the treats, since both the parents and kids will notice if you’re giving away king-sized candy bars instead of single pieces of cheap, hard candy.

Third, well, just throw the whole concept on its head.  Give candy to your business’s customers instead of or in addition to giving business cards to kids.  Some adults may be allergic or insist they’re on a diet, but just about everyone loves a dose of chocolate and sugar.
