Utilizing Business Delegation

How delegation can improve your business

As defined by Entrepreneur.com, delegation is "the assignment to others of the authority for particular functions, tasks and decisions." It sounds fairly simple, but why is it so hard to do?

Small business owners are often guilty of failing to delegate in fear that other employees could make a mistake. However, as a business grows, it becomes necessary to delegate. As explained in the video above, delegation produces the following advantages:

-    Increase in productivity
-    Decrease in business risk
-    Reduction of stress

Some business owners frown upon delegation sine it takes time to train the employees who will be taking over the responsibilities. While that is true, time will actually be saved in the long run because more of the business owner’s time will be freed up, which would allow he or she to further focus on new ideas and opportunities.

D.L. Moody once said, "You can do the work of ten men, or get ten men to do the work."

Which option do you choose for your business?

  1. If I could manage to accomplish the ten tasks D.L. Moody notes and those were the only tasks I would ever need to accomplish, I would then choose to do the tasks personally and avoid the payroll liabilities.  But…… if  I were to choose to grow past the initial ten task requirements, I would need to have delegated the first few, hence freeing up time for me to address the newly presenting (and potentially delegatable) tasks.

This may have been why Jesus decided to teach us to fish, instead of just feeding us.  He may have had future plans also (ha,ha).

  2. It’s about trust, and i think trust is earned very hard.

  3. This article is in concurrence with an article I wrote recently, called The Art of Delegation. You make a good point that training employees to the point where one can delegate to them can be time-consuming, hence my article focuses on the benefits of hiring a virtual assistant to whom one can delegate as and when required, ultimately increasing the productivity of the business on the whole. I also agree with your point that delegation frees up time for a business owner that can be spent elsewhere, be it on other aspects of the business or stabilizing their work-life balance.
