What’s it Like to Run a Mobile Home-Based Business?

Allow Office Depot to show us.

Many of you reading this probably run home businesses.

How many of you run mobile home businesses?

A ran across an interesting press release from Office Depot this morning that speaks of technology columnist and author Jeff Zbar taking a home office road trip.

More accurately, it’s called the "Home Office Highway Tour", and its mission is to demonstrate through blog posts and web videos how one can run a successful home business while on the road.

He is hitting the road for three weeks and will "reveal how ‘connected’ a family can be when traveling the nation’s highways".

On his journey, he will (along with his family) live in an "Internet-connected, teched-out, 23-foot recreational vehicle (RV), complete with a fully-functional home office that will include a computer, printer, wireless Internet, files, storage and more."

Publicity stunt for Office Depot? Sure, but that’s not to say that Zbar’s quest won’t prove to be an interesting look at running a small business from the road.

The timing of the tour seems a little ill-conceived considering that gas prices reached record highs over this past weekend, so I don’t expect the journey to inspire many imitators, but it may be a worth checking in on in a reality-tv kind of way (if you like that sort of thing).

Zbar is making stops at Office Depot locations around the country, so keep an eye out. He may be coming to your town, and you can ask him how much he has put in his tank (although I’m sure Office Depot is taking care of it).

What do you think? Respond.
