YouTube Makes Social Media Marketing Easier

Social media marketing can be fun – after all, you’re operating in the land of piano-playing cats, oversharing celebrities, and all other sorts of neat stuff.  At the same time, it can be a nuisance – between Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and MySpace, plus also-rans like Bebo, there are any number of sites to cover.  YouTube wants to help.

A post on the YouTube Blog explains, "As we learned in kindergarten, sharing is good.  We want you to be able to do more of it with your videos.  With a simple one-time log-in on our upload page, you can now have your YouTube account automatically update your Facebook friends, Twitter followers, and Google Reader shared items when you upload a video."

This should ensure that marketing messages reach the largest possible audience.  Or, if you’ve already been diligent about linking to your YouTube videos in every possible place, the new option should save you all sorts of time.

No real commitment of any sort’s required.  The post states, "If you change your mind, you can shut it off at any time.  And of course, for those videos that you’d rather not share, mark them as private and they won’t be sent to any other site."

One last side note . . . this development may remind Conan O’Brien fans of a certain "Year 3000" line: "YouTube, Twitter and Facebook will merge to form one super time-wasting website called YouTwitFace."

  1. Youtube have got it right. They display ads on the bottom of the video and sometimes a short ad before the film plays. It is not intrusive in any way, the viewer can see the video without the ads being annoying in any way.

  2.  Thanks for the great dicussion!  One more little tip: leave your youtube comment open.  This way, you get backlinks each time people comment on your video. Don’t worry about spam too much because if it goes really bad the YouTube team will remove them anyway.
